summer road in mountain, Norway

August may be upon us, but that doesn't mean summer is over yet! Now is the perfect time to get out and explore the cities before the warm weather runs out. From 5ks to shopping tours, there are so many ways to get out and get involved in the community.

Summer X Games

Where: U.S. Bank Stadium & the Armory     When:  August 1-4th        Cost: $15+

During the summer, its typical to go out and watch a Minnesota Twins baseball game, but most people don’t usually get the opportunity to watch athletes do extreme sports. Well, this is your chance! Not only can you watch extreme sports during this event, but there’s also tons of live music which gives the event an authentic festival experience. This is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and have some fun!

Twin Cities Early Music Festival

Where: Walker Art Center      When:  August 1-11th        Cost: $10+

If modern music isn’t your jam, you may be ready to throw it back and listen to some oldies  —  and by oldies, I mean some REALLY old music. This festival features music from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque periods, in both individual and ensemble performances. You can buy tickets at the door to the performances you want to see or purchase an all-access festival pass! Whatever choice you make, you can be sure that you’ll have a culturally enriching experience.

Minnesota Fringe Festival

Where: Various Venues     When:  August 1-11th     Cost: $3+

Do you ever find yourself wondering how you can go out of your way to support local artists? If so, the Minnesota Fringe Festival is the perfect solution. Performers are chosen randomly through a lottery process and take home a majority of their ticket sales, so this is a good way to ensure that artists are getting the pay that they deserve.

Shaver Shuffle 5k

Where: Hilde Performance Center    When:  August 3rd         Cost: $30-$40

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday, the Shaver Shuffle is a great option. Not only are you supporting the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund, but you’re also positively impacting your health and getting a little sunshine! This 5k welcomes runners of all levels of experience and encourages participants to bring their pups and strollers. You can even form a team and participate together. With all these awesome benefits, there's no way you can miss this opportunity!

2019 Lake Hiawatha Neighborhood Festival

Where: Lake Hiawatha Regional Park   When: August 7th     Cost: Free!

Now that August is here, your opportunity for lake days is slowly dwindling so the Lake Hiawatha Neighborhood Festival is the perfect way to relax out by the lake before summer officially comes to a close. You can take a canoe out on the lake or simply relax onshore and watch the talent contest, participate in the family fitness challenge, or eat some of the food sold by the vendors. Whatever you choose to do, you can’t go wrong when you’re next to Lake Hiawatha!

Irish Fair of Minnesota

Where: Harriet Island Regional Park     When:  August 9-11th       Cost: Free!

Gather alongside the Mississippi River for a weekend of music, food, and fun. This festival was created to celebrate Irish heritage and is sure to be a culturally enriching experience. It boasts being family friendly, so make sure to bring everyone you can to this free event! They even have a “Zero K” you can participate in, which might be the shortest race you’ve ever ran but it comes with a free drink so it's clearly worth it.

Lakefront Days

Where: Lakefront Park     When:  August 9-10th        Cost: $0+

If you’re located South of the Metro, this community event is perfect for you! With events at a variety of different price points, you’ll definitely find something that you like. There’s wine tastings, silent auctions, and live music for the adults and yard games, pontoon rides and kids workshops for the younger crowd. Bring your family for a weekend of fun!

The Shop Hop Shopping Tour

Where: 401 E Dual Blvd Ste 110, Isanti, Minnesota 55040   When:  August 15-17th        Cost: Free!

Sometimes we all need a little retail therapy, and this shopping tour is the perfect way to satisfy this desire. Featuring furniture, home décor, garden art, jewelry, clothing, soaps/lotions, and gifts in a variety of popular styles, this tour is a great way to support local businesses and engage in your community. If you’re ready to shop til you drop, definitely attend this tour!
